France detains 217 over violence and looting
The French Ministry of Justice announced that 217 people out of 2,700 detainees have been imprisoned in connection with the acts of violence and looting that took place in France over the weekend. These measures are a firm response to the wave of protests that resulted in violent clashes in Paris and several other cities, leading to the death of a protester, injuries to over 600 police officers, and the arrest of more than 2,000 individuals. The protests involved destroying shops, setting fires, and spray-painting slogans on walls, marking some of the most severe disturbances the country has experienced in years.
