Sudan on UN agenda for peace efforts
Peka Havisto, the UN envoy to Sudan, confirmed that there is no option for a resolution other than through political dialogue and diplomatic efforts, and that a military solution is impossible. This statement came after an international meeting in Geneva attended by 21 countries and five international organizations, which was without the participation of the conflict parties—the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces. The international community discussed ways to build trust between the parties, support humanitarian aid, and prevent the formation of parallel governments, while expressing concern over the atrocities against civilians and the increasing use of drones. The international community praised the facilitation efforts for dialogue and reaching a political solution to the Sudanese crisis.
