News reports indicate that the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) is seeking to establish a secret, powerful espionage program aimed at waging an economic war against China and other competing nations, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and semiconductors. The program focuses on agents operating under the cover of businesspeople and private sector employees, without official ties to the US government. Its goal is to gather intelligence to enhance American economic dominance. Although the department denies that the program is currently underway, informed sources suggest it remains in the planning stage and could take the form of an independent unit or bolster existing intelligence capabilities, possibly sharing information with American companies to increase competitive advantages.
