Global Alert: Two Flaws Endanger Major Web Language
Two serious security vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language, which is used to run approximately 70% of websites, have been exposing potential breaches for over ten years. The flaws have allowed attackers to gain remote access to servers without needing login credentials, significantly risking sensitive information and threatening control over websites and servers. In response to this threat, many governments and European and Australian institutions temporarily shut down their sites, and U.S. and British security agencies have advised organizations to apply security patches immediately. PHP developers have issued urgent updates to fix these vulnerabilities, but delays in installation could leave millions of sites exposed to attacks that could last weeks or months. The risk is heightened by attackers potentially using AI tools—helped by these discoveries—to exploit the flaws, highlighting the fragility of the global digital infrastructure.
