U.S. candidate detained in West Bank
Israeli forces detained Democratic Party congressional candidate Brad Lander, along with approximately 80-90 other volunteers, while they were accompanying Palestinian farmers in the Nahlain area near Bethlehem during the olive harvest season. The forces turned the area into a closed military zone and held the volunteers to verify their identities amid escalating Israeli attacks on Palestinian farmers during the harvest. Lander is known for his opposition to the Israeli war on Gaza and his criticism of violations of Palestinian rights. He is considered a ally of New York City Mayor Zahran Mamedani. The incident comes amid rising tensions and assaults in the West Bank, with no comment from the Israeli police or the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.
