Houthi siege reduces water in Taiz

The humanitarian crisis in the Yemeni city of Taiz is worsening due to the ongoing Houthi blockade of roads, which hampers the delivery of vital supplies, leading to a 50% reduction in water production and a 50% increase in food prices. There is also a shortage of fuel and gas, along with a deteriorating stock of medicines and oxygen in hospitals. As a result of Houthi escalation, approximately 232,000 people have been displaced from early August to mid-October. The situation has worsened with continued clashes, particularly in the Al-Turbah district, increasing the suffering of IDPs and threatening their health and safety, especially amid the spread of cholera and the decline of essential services. Officials emphasize the importance of documenting the effects of the blockade to pressure the international community and halt the escalation, while humanitarian aid remains insufficient to meet the growing needs.
