Zelensky ready for re-election amid crisis
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is prepared to run in the presidential elections amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, affirming that doing so during the war is his duty to defend his country. Ukraine requires six months after the end of hostilities to hold elections in accordance with the law; however, he is open to discussing voting during the conflict if Russia agrees to a ceasefire for 60 days, allowing for legal adjustments and election infrastructure preparations. The last presidential election in Ukraine was in 2019, and elections were suspended during the wartime state of emergency in 2022 for security reasons.
