Israel detains 10 settlers over assault on diplomats
The Israeli police announced the arrest of 10 settlers in the West Bank following a wave of attacks carried out by masked individuals at the end of the week against European diplomats and an American photojournalist. The assaults took place during a visit by a European diplomatic delegation to Palestinian farmers near the town of Al-Taybeh, where their vehicles were targeted with stones and batons. A French mayor was assaulted and vandalized, while a photojournalist was wounded in similar attacks in the Abu Falah area, resulting in the theft of her photography equipment. Widespread international condemnation of the attacks has called for holding the perpetrators accountable and stopping settlement violence, amid ongoing escalation of attacks against Palestinians and olive farmers in various parts of the West Bank—damaging over 45,000 olive trees in the first half of 2026.
