Italy unrest: Looting and clashes
Italy experienced widespread protests over the weekend due to rising living costs, resulting in violent clashes in several cities including Milan. Protesters damaged shops, set fires, and security forces were targeted with stones and bottles, leading to injuries and the arrest of many involved, including minors. The government is on high alert, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni holding an emergency meeting to discuss security concerns amid calls to tighten measures against those involved in the violence. Reports indicated that thousands participated in the protests, some organized via social media, with broad political rejection of the violence. The government continues to discuss strategies to combat this phenomenon.
