France protests escalate into severe riots
France, particularly Paris and several other cities, experienced violent protests against the rising cost of living, involving approximately 550,000 to 800,000 demonstrators. Around 1,200 people were arrested, and 150 police officers were injured. The protests led to widespread destruction, including the burning of heritage buildings, looting of shops, pharmacies, and luxury stores, as well as attacks on municipal buildings and public facilities, creating circumstances of chaos. The police used tear gas to disperse the protesters. These protests are considered among the most violent in recent years, with calls from the government to restore order and halt the violence, amidst intense political exchanges between parties and unions.
