Spirit of hope in western Sichuan
Western Sichuan Province in China has transformed from a region once known as the "Death Trap" during the Great Red Army march into a thriving area of tourism and economic development. Thanks to infrastructure improvements, including highways and railways, it is now possible to reach the area in just hours instead of months. The region has seen the proliferation of gas stations and electric charging points, an increase in visitors, and recorded over 366,000 tourists in 2025—an increase of 52.4% compared to the previous year. Local communities have also drawn inspiration from these developments to grow their economies, such as through rose cultivation, which has helped raise the income of thousands of farmers. Today, the region stands as a symbol of history and growth, having once been part of a revolutionary march spanning 12,500 kilometers.
