French foreign and defense ministers visit Lebanon
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barro and Defense Minister Élis Rofu visited Lebanon to discuss mechanisms for international presence after the end of UNIFIL’s mandate, aiming to avoid a security vacuum and support the implementation of a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. This agreement includes Hezbollah's disarmament and a gradual Israeli withdrawal, with backing for the Lebanese Forces and the Lebanese Army. The visit also focused on supporting Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of continuing international presence beyond 2027. It included meetings with Lebanese officials to discuss economic reforms and the humanitarian situation, including aid provided since 2024.
