Gaza Media Office Denies Truck Tax
The Media Office in the Gaza Strip denied any imposition of taxes or fees on commercial trucks, stressing that Israel is propagating claims to justify its ongoing restrictions on the entry of goods into the sector. It clarified that reports of financial demands from Hamas for entry of trucks are community initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, not government taxes. While Israel has closed the Rafah crossing for the second week to allow evacuations of patients, the statement affirmed that the sector relies on the entry of approximately 600 trucks daily with aid and goods, most of which pass through Egypt. It is worth noting that Israeli restrictions have led to a decline in supplies, threatening market stability and the prices of goods, and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the sector, which depends heavily on aid.
