Shooi Ghorjeh Al-Haddaji, the young Tunisian man, was celebrated for his heroism in rescuing two Italian elderly men from a fire in a house in Pachino, Sicily, where he entered the building and managed to carry out the two immobilized seniors trapped by the flames. Despite his humanitarian efforts, he is currently facing the threat of deportation from Italy, as authorities confirmed that he has been under a deportation order since last July, prompting the start of deportation procedures according to his lawyer. The debate in Italy revolves around delays in implementing laws that allow for granting exceptional residence permits to individuals who have performed significant humanitarian acts. Civil society groups and political movements have called for giving Ghorjeh a chance to stay. Meanwhile, the right-wing government, led by Prime Minister Meloni, continues its policy of deporting undocumented migrants, highlighting the growing rift between humanitarian policies and security concerns.
