Libya considers suspending Greece talks
The article addresses the maritime dispute between Libya and Greece. Libya has warned Greece of the potential suspension of bilateral negotiations over maritime boundary delimitation due to Athens’ plans to conduct seismic surveys and exploration for oil and gas in maritime areas south of Crete, which Libya considers part of its economic zones. Libya responded to these activities with a diplomatic objection, deeming that Greece is violating its continental shelf and that the exploration areas overlap with maritime zones agreed upon within regional understandings, complicating the delimitation negotiations. Libya also linked the escalation of the disagreement to the lack of communication resulting from political changes within Libya, including the replacement of the Speaker of Parliament. The Libyan side reaffirmed its firm stance on protecting its maritime zones and not compromising them, while Greece continues its exploration activities.
