Syrian Coast Trial Sentences
The Military Criminal Court in Aleppo has issued sentences of imprisonment and death for defendants loyal to the Syrian regime, in connection with the acts of violence that took place along the Syrian coast in March 2025. The rulings included the death penalty for two individuals and the acquittal of several others, after they were convicted of crimes related to assaulting areas and threatening national unity. The court documented the killing of 1,426 Alawites during these events and reported numerous injuries. The incident dates back to a three-day wave of sectarian violence in a predominantly Alawite area, which authorities blamed on regime loyalists associated with Bashar Assad. Judicial investigations and court proceedings involved 14 defendants.
