Ethiopian forces move toward Eritrean border

Clashes on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea are intensifying, with Ethiopian federal forces advancing toward the town of Zalambessa along the border with Eritrea. There are concerns about the potential outbreak of a regional war. A government-aligned source confirmed that the forces control villages near the town and have not crossed the Ethiopian border, while Eritrean troops are present at the northern outskirts of the town. The United States has called for de-escalation and dialogue between the two neighbors amid fears that the conflict could expand into the Horn of Africa. Developments include the retreat of the Tigray People's Liberation Front forces, who have taken control of Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region. However, tensions along the border remain high, with Eritrean forces deployed in the area and security threats of possible escalation still looming.
