China producer prices surge amid energy costs
Producer prices in China increased by 5% in September 2026, marking the fastest growth since June 2022. This primarily reflects rising oil and non-ferrous metal prices, increased demand in the energy and raw materials sectors, especially with coal prices soaring by up to 13.6% ahead of the heating season. Additionally, the growing demand for construction materials, machinery manufacturing, and electronic devices contributed to pushing prices higher. Meanwhile, the consumer price index saw a modest increase of 0.9%, driven by higher energy and consumer good costs.
