Over 100 Dead in Djibouti Boat Sinking
At least 109 migrants have died, including 15 children, and about 116 others are missing after a boat sank off the coast of Djibouti. The vessel was carrying 350 people heading to Yemen. The boat capsized north of the Djiboutian Abbouk coast, with more than 80 people surviving—all of whom are Ethiopians. The International Organization for Migration indicates that poverty, insecurity, and climate change are pushing many to undertake these perilous journeys, especially through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, where Djibouti is a major departure point for migrants from the Horn of Africa heading towards the Gulf.
