Video - The Cockroaches resurface in India amid protests
The youth movement "The Roaches" is back protesting in India, amid rising anger over the voter list revision process that has resulted in the removal of over 130 million names. The opposition accuses the government of using this process to manipulate election results in favor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party. Security forces in New Delhi have enforced strict measures, including deploying police personnel, shutting down transportation, and halting internet services, to prevent rallies demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protests reflect opposition concerns that the revision aims to reduce the number of eligible voters, amid increasing legal challenges, while the government maintains that the goal is to improve the accuracy of electoral data. The movement, which has gained significant youth support, is returning to the streets after previous protests and is now calling for the suspension of the review process and the resignation of the election commissioner, amid widespread participation and heightened security measures.
