Lebanese government seeks to ease crisis
The Lebanese government is addressing the economic crisis through financial measures, most notably improving social support for poor families and public employees, pursuing those involved in embezzlement, and recovering stolen funds. Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed that the war has set the Lebanese economy back after a 4.2% growth last year, with a projected contraction of 6.4% this year, due to the regional crisis and rising oil prices. He also emphasized the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on citizens by regulating generator prices, enhancing oversight, implementing improvements in wages and social benefits, increasing healthcare funding, and upgrading infrastructure. Meanwhile, Banque du Liban has taken judicial and strategic steps to recover embezzled funds through special accounts, with the aim of protecting assets and restoring confidence in the Lebanese financial system.
