US planes damaged in Iran conflict totaling billions
A recent report from the Congressional Research Service reveals that the U.S. military suffered losses related to 81 military aircraft during the war with Iran, with an estimated cost ranging from $1.9 billion to $3.3 billion for repairs or replacements. The losses included drone aircraft such as the MQ-9 Reaper, as well as fighter jets like the F-35A and E-3 Sentry. Drones were the most affected, accounting for over half of the losses. According to the report, some of the damaged aircraft were repaired and returned to service, while others were replaced. The final cost remains uncertain, pending decisions by the Department of Defense regarding repairs versus replacements. The overall estimated cost of the war with Iran is approximately $45 billion, though there is ambiguity about how these losses impact U.S. military capability. Additionally, Congress faces challenges in allocating sufficient funding to address future losses.
