Sa'ar's statement on the British consulate in Jerusalem
Britain announced that its consulate in East Jerusalem, which dates back approximately 200 years, will continue to operate under the name "The British Mission in Jerusalem" after Israel ordered its closure over a dispute regarding sanctions imposed on settlements in the West Bank. The consulate's operations will be officially terminated, but some British diplomats will continue working inside the building under an agreement between the two governments. Israel considers the consulate to be located on occupied territory since 1967 and urges Britain not to close it, while London refuses to acknowledge Israel's right to shut down the building, continuing to provide services to the Palestinian people. This tension arises amid diplomatic disagreements following measures and decisions by the British Labour Party government, which Israel has responded to with counteractions.
