Ramón Villas bids to challenge Infantino
Ramon Vila, the former Swiss football defender, announced his intention to run for FIFA presidency to challenge Gianni Infantino in the upcoming elections scheduled for March 2027. His campaign focuses on reforming governance and restoring trust in football, explaining that the sport has entered a state of emergency and requires fundamental changes to ensure its stability and unity. Vila needs to secure support from five national federations out of 211 to become officially nominated, after attempting to run previously in 2015 and 2022 without success. If he manages to win the support and garner votes, he will become the third Swiss to hold the FIFA presidency, amid increasing pressure on Infantino amidst several crises within the organization.
