Poll Shows Most Americans Oppose Public Campaign Funding
A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that the majority of Americans, at 86%, believe it is inappropriate to use taxpayers' money to fund television advertisements featuring the President or government officials, especially during the campaign season leading up to the midterm elections in November. Experts and politicians from both parties criticized these ads, which aired weeks before the elections. The government stated that their purpose was to promote patriotism among citizens rather than support specific candidates. Trump announced that he would pay for the advertisements out of his own pocket, despite criticisms suggesting that this form of campaigning could violate campaign finance laws. Additionally, the poll revealed that about 71% of participants oppose renaming the Kennedy Center after Trump, and most Americans oppose restrictions on media access to the White House.
