Mauritanian forces target blackmail network
The article discusses investigations and visits conducted by human rights organizations in Mauritania to detainees held in connection with cases related to the "online blogger abroad" file. The security campaign resulted in the detention of relatives of bloggers residing abroad, based on allegations of extortion and suspicious financial transactions exceeding 1.5 billion Ouguiya (approximately 3.7 million dollars). Human rights committees visited the detainees and reviewed their detention conditions, affirming that the conditions are appropriate and that they have not been subjected to ill-treatment, while emphasizing the importance of respecting legal procedures and the rights of the accused. These measures come amid a widespread campaign of arrests targeting individuals connected to bloggers, involving networks accused of financial extortion. The detainees deny the charges against them and see the campaign as an escalation against their political opposition stances.
