France proposes five measures for education crisis
The French government, led by Prime Minister Sébastian Lecornu, announced the launch of five pathways to address the education crisis, which has worsened due to a shortage of teachers, deteriorating school buildings, and long school days, following widespread protests in French schools. The measures include ensuring regular attendance of classes, improving building conditions, reorganizing school days, enhancing transparency in the university admissions system, and increasing student participation in internal decision-making. Additionally, it was announced that the education ministry’s budget will be increased by 1.2 billion euros, reaching approximately 64 billion euros by 2027, to combat resource shortages and improve the quality of education, amid ongoing tensions and demonstrations that resulted in injuries and school fires. The government’s goal is to restore regular school attendance, separating peaceful protests from violence, while working to improve school conditions and responding to the demands of students and teachers.
