Sudan protests and road closures over murder in Port Sudan
The city of Port Sudan in Sudan experienced tensions following a mysterious murder that led to angry protests, stone-throwing roads closures, and burning tires. Protesters demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators. The crime occurs in the context of increasing crime rates across several Sudanese states, due to security chaos and the rising activity of gangs. This situation is compounded by security challenges stemming from the ongoing war since April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has claimed the lives of over 59,000 people and displaced more than 13 million. As a result, widespread famine has broken out, and more than 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
