Trump declares fight against mosquitoes
U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to combat the spread of mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit in Washington by signing an executive order that includes a plan aimed at reducing certain invasive mosquito species by 90% within 60 days. The measures involve treating mosquito and tick breeding sites, developing safe and effective non-chemical techniques to control them, and expanding research on prevention and treatment of insect-borne diseases such as dengue fever, especially amid an unusual outbreak in Florida. This comes amid a rising number of dengue cases in Florida, which has recorded 190 cases since the beginning of 2026. Some experts attribute this to the cloudy weather and heavy rainfall.
