West Bank Olive Trees Face Threats
The olive harvesting season in the Palestinian West Bank faces significant challenges due to Israeli military restrictions and ongoing settlement attacks. The occupation forces impose restrictions on access to lands through gates and checkpoints, complicating the harvest process and increasing farmers' hardships. These policies have disrupted access to about 20% of the agricultural land, in addition to causing damage to trees and olive harvests by settlers. It has been documented that over 283,000 olive trees have been affected, with financial losses exceeding $156 million over the past three years. Attacks and threats to production are escalating, as the occupation continues to impose restrictive measures and increase assaults, jeopardizing the sustainability of this vital sector and intensifying the suffering of Palestinian farmers.
