Europe’s summer signals heatwave risks
A study has warned that the deadly heatwaves and major agricultural losses experienced by Europe this summer indicate increasing climate disturbances. Temperatures were approximately 2.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average of past years, and over 60% of Western Europe endured more than 17 days with temperatures exceeding 30°C. These conditions led to the deaths of numerous people and the destruction of crops. The study linked these phenomena to rising risks associated with fossil fuel pollution and emphasized the need to build resilience capabilities to cope with the accelerating effects of climate change.
