Lebanese State Cannot Meet Reconstruction Needs
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawar Salameh spoke about the need for significant funding to rebuild the areas affected in southern Lebanon, especially the city of Nabatieh, after the recent war between Hezbollah and Israel. He clarified that the scale of the needs surpasses the capabilities of the state alone, and that the government is working to secure the necessary financial support to end the effects of the war, which resulted in widespread destruction and incurred costs exceeding $27 billion, according to estimates by the World Bank. He also emphasized the importance of restoring the functioning of state institutions to support the resilience of the southern residents and to revive life there, through implementing projects for the restoration and improvement of infrastructure and security facilities. Additionally, he stressed the necessity of full Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories and the importance of achieving unity in military and political decision-making to prevent the risk of renewed conflict.
