Iranian Accused of $3B Hacking Case to Face US Court
The United States delivered to Montenegro an Iranian citizen, charged with involvement in a widespread hacking scheme targeting over 150 universities and companies, with stolen data valued at more than $3.4 billion. Amir Parati (40 years old), who also holds Turkish citizenship, faces charges of cyber fraud and hacking after he was arrested in June at the request of the FBI and handed over for trial in New York. This event is considered one of the largest cyber infiltration attempts related to Iran and comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, with claims that Iranian hackers have targeted various sectors, including education, technology, and energy, in operations ongoing since 2013, resulting in around 8,000 accounts being compromised and significant losses incurred.
