US sanctions reduce Iranian flights by 42%
U.S. sanctions on the Iranian aviation sector have been in place since September 2026, leading to a 42% decline in flight movements at Tehran Airport, with the average daily flights dropping from 91 to 53. The sanctions caused scheduled flights to several countries such as Georgia, Oman, and Azerbaijan to cease, while some destinations like China, Turkey, and others continued to operate on a limited basis. Despite the impact of the sanctions, some of the most in-demand routes, especially between Tehran and Turkey and China, maintained a certain level of flights, with airlines like "Qazvin Airlines" increasing their flights to Turkey.
