French school protests lead to arrests
France has experienced a widespread wave of protests in high schools, with around 400 schools participating in strikes and demonstrations to protest overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, inadequate infrastructure, and intensive study schedules. The protests were concentrated in major cities such as Paris, Lille, Reims, Lyon, and Nice, leading to hundreds of arrests and dozens of injuries, with intense clashes between students and security forces who used tear gas and batons. Students also expressed solidarity with teachers who are burdened with heavy workloads and low wages, which has escalated tensions, increased confrontations, and prompted political criticisms of the government, which rejected these escalations and accused opposition groups of inciting students.
