German army's female conscript safety issues
The German military faces significant challenges in integrating women and addressing issues of sexual harassment within its ranks, with women making up only 13.6% of the force. Female recruits, such as Sina F., who has been subjected to harassment and bullying by her colleagues, encounter great difficulties and insufficient support, compounded by weak reporting channels and fear of professional repercussions. Reports indicate that the problem is deeply rooted, with the number of complaints rising to 472 in 2025, although there is a belief that the actual number of victims is higher than reported. Experts criticize the failure to effectively integrate women and call for greater leadership awareness and clear policies to protect women and combat harassment. The military aims to increase the female percentage to 20% to better respond to global threats.
