Journalists leave Mokha over Houthi threats
Dozens of journalists and media professionals displaced from the Yemeni city of Al-Mokha and its surrounding areas are facing severe humanitarian and living conditions, after being forced to leave their homes due to Houthi military expansion in western Taiz and the western coast of Al-Hudaydah. Their homes and possessions have been looted, and the country is experiencing violations that include the detention and abduction of journalists, threatening press freedom and the safety of media workers. The Media Freedom Observatory has called on international organizations to provide urgent support, including financial aid, housing, and psychological and professional assistance. Yemen, since 2015, has accumulated a troubling record of more than 540 arbitrary detentions and 235 cases of enforced disappearance of journalists, with ongoing violations and a worsening humanitarian situation for those working in the media sector.
