Protests over Mecca threats
Reports indicate that the Yemeni Houthi group attacked Mecca with a drone attempting to enter its airspace. Saudi air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed it before it reached the holy city. The spokesperson for the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen described this targeting as the second attack on Mecca since 2017, considering it a terrorist attempt aimed at deterring Muslims and unsettling their security. The Houthis described the attack as a "great falsehood" and see it as a violation of the sanctity of Mecca and Islamic holy sites. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia insists that its defenses managed to counter the threat without direct intervention from the United States.
