Gaza Refuge Turns Deadly
A field report describes the collapse of the Al-Saada building in the Al-Sabira neighborhood of Gaza. The homes turned into deadly traps after collapsing rapidly, resulting in 21 deaths and 45 injuries, all of whom were rescued in operations that lasted over 15 hours. The building housed approximately 100 people, most of whom had been displaced from homes destroyed during the war. Despite its previous damage, the structure provided shelter for them, highlighting the ongoing housing crisis in Gaza caused by continuous destruction. The residents live in constant fear of further collapses, while rescue teams lack the necessary equipment to handle damaged buildings. This situation makes the search for safe shelter a significant challenge, especially with winter approaching.
