Iraqi judicial authorities insist on maintaining exclusive control over the file of ISIS detainees transferred from Syria. The detainees are currently undergoing investigations by the Counter-Terrorism Service and the Judiciary Council. Sources confirmed that the case is still under investigation and that it may take some time before trials can begin, given that it is a matter of national security requiring special procedures. Experts also stressed that Iraqi laws prohibit foreign lawyers from representing clients in these cases, allowing them only to visit the detainees to review their files. There have been protests from French lawyers against Baghdad’s decisions not to permit them to represent their clients.
