In Homs, Syria, an elderly man named Bilal Adwan demolished a concrete wall he had built himself in 2011 to protect his son's library from repression during the Syrian revolution. After 15 years, he did so to recover the books intact and without damage. The wall was initially constructed at the start of the revolution to conceal the library, and it was later dismantled in 2026 to demonstrate that truth and knowledge endure despite repression and destruction. Behind this act lies a powerful message about the ongoing legacy of intellect, with books representing human history and memories—proving that ideas cannot be buried beneath the rubble.
