Google limits dislikes on long YouTube videos

YouTube announced that it is testing the hiding of the Dislike button on videos in order to protect content creators from harassment and attacks. The button is now being concealed from the public view, making it more difficult to access, by moving it to a secondary menu rather than displaying it directly below the video. The platform also expressed a desire to reduce the influence of dislike counts on video ratings, having stopped publicly displaying these numbers since 2021, to help shield creators from distortion and pressure. These changes have raised concerns among some users and content creators who rely on dislike indicators to gauge the quality of content, especially in educational videos, where it is now more challenging to quickly assess a video's value. Meanwhile, YouTube continues to experiment with other features and enhancements for the video player and viewer interaction.
