USA scammers clone police voices with AI
Reports have warned of an increase in scams using artificial intelligence to forge the voices of government officials and police officers. Scammers have cloned the voice of a police officer in Florida and created a voice message impersonating him to deceive victims, along with digital images to verify their fake identities. Such practices are considered felonies in Florida and are occurring repeatedly in other states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, where scammers use fake phone numbers and voice manipulation techniques to defraud dozens of people by demanding bail payments or money transfers, relying on AI tools. Governments and organizations are moving toward enacting laws to regulate and protect personal images and voices from deepfake manipulation.
