The article discusses the development of robotic taxis and their potential impact on the job market in transportation services, particularly for ride-hailing drivers such as Uber drivers. It points out that self-driving test drives are expanding in cities like Abu Dhabi, where fully autonomous vehicles have been operating since November 2025, supported by licensing and regulations. The article clarifies that the absence of a driver in the front seat does not mean humans are absent from the process; instead, their roles shift among platforms, tech companies, and fleet operators. This raises questions about revenue and profit distribution, as drivers' incomes may decline before new jobs in management and coordination emerge. Studies have confirmed that operating autonomous vehicles has led to reductions in the earnings of some taxi drivers, although results vary across markets. The future of drivers' jobs remains uncertain as the adoption of autonomous vehicles continues to grow.
