128 nations endorse treaty on lethal robot regulation
128 countries reached a non-binding agreement during a meeting in Geneva, aimed at establishing international rules to regulate the use of autonomous weapons, known as "killer robots." Despite ongoing disagreements, especially from the United States and Russia, which preferred to adopt national guidelines instead of binding legal standards, the agreement focuses on minimizing the harm caused by these weapons to civilians. This consensus comes amid increasing international concerns over the use of autonomous weapon systems in conflicts such as Ukraine and Sudan, and is considered a preliminary step toward future negotiations to establish an international regulatory treaty.
