Al Hilal’s Ahli ordeal
Simone Inzaghi took charge of Al Hilal against the UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli on Tuesday in Riyadh with a lineup once again built around three defenders and two forwards—the same approach Al Hilal used when they lost 3–1 to Qatar’s Al Shamal in the previous round, prompting criticism of the coach. Several Al Hilal players were absent through suspension or injury, while Inzaghi sought to avoid a second consecutive Asian defeat. His team had six points, compared with Shabab Al Ahli’s nine.
