Argentine police escorted River Plate defender Gonzalo Montiel to the dressing room and shielded him with riot shields after he was sent off in the 79th minute of the derby against Boca Juniors for a strong challenge on Lautaro Blanco’s ankle. VAR officials upheld the red-card decision, while fans threw objects at Montiel after he provoked them with gestures, delaying the restart. Boca won 1–0 with a goal from Lautaro Di Lollo in the 27th minute, after River had been reduced to nine players when defender Lucas Martínez Quarta was sent off in the 10th minute.
