Al-Diriyah coach Bruno Lage questioned the penalty awarded to NEOM, saying the team had done nothing to deserve it, after Al-Diriyah lost 2–1 in Round 12 of the Saudi Pro League at Riyadh’s Al-Awwal Park. Lage criticised the refereeing, saying that contact was being penalised as fouls against his team and that referees showed excessive deference to big clubs. He pointed to shirt-pulling incidents and decisions that were overturned after VAR reviews. Despite the result, he described his team’s performance as positive, accepted responsibility and stressed that Al-Diriyah would continue working to improve.
