Asian Cup finals move to even years from 2032
The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Asian Football Confederation approved the organization of the AFC Asian Cup finals in even-numbered years starting from the 2032 edition, instead of odd-numbered years. This change aligns with anticipated modifications to FIFA’s competition schedule to ensure synchronization between the federation’s elections and tournament timings. These adjustments aim to enhance stability and governance, ensuring the continued hosting of the tournament at regular intervals, with leadership elections scheduled for 2027 and the winners taking office in 2028. Their terms will extend until 2032, while current members will remain in their positions until the end of 2027.
