Inter's first win with ten players
Inter Milan achieved their first victory of the current UEFA Champions League season, defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. The only goal of the match was scored by Brazilian Carlos Augusto in the 77th minute, despite the team being reduced to ten players after defender Alessandro Bastoni was sent off in the 66th and 69th minutes for receiving two yellow cards. Inter's captain and top scorer, Lautaro Martínez, was absent due to injury. The team had previously lost in the first round to Real Madrid and stumbled in the second match against Club Brugge. This win puts Inter back on the right track after a series of poor results in the Champions League.
